I got contacts about 10 years ago (Whoa, has it been that long???), and I still haven't gotten over the fact that I can actually see in the shower and when I'm swimming. I am extremely near-sighted to the point where I have to hold a paper less than two inches from my face in order to read it, so any kind of corrective lens makes a very big difference. When I get up and begin getting ready in the morning, the very first thing I do is put my contacts in. The wet, cold things wake me very quickly, and I'm rewarded by being able to see better than with my glasses. (My glasses are fine, but contacts don't have frames to limit my line of sight. And, even though my glasses have my current prescription in them, I can see better with contacts.)

I've worn my contacts in pools, lakes, oceans and even to water slides, even though I run the risk of losing them in the water. Unless you've experienced it, you can't imagine how wonderful it is to be able to swim underwater, come back up and SEE things around you. You can swim out to buoys and still see things reflecting in the water beyond you. With glasses, it's too hard to make an attempt at swimming while wearing them. Just ask my mom, who lost her glasses in the ocean not so very long ago.

If I shower before I go to bed at night, I don't take my contacts out until after the shower. For that matter, I usually leave my contacts in until just before I go to sleep. I've slept in my contacts, and, even though it's not good for them, being able to see when I open my eyes is a wonderful thing. If I could get corrective laser eye surgery, I would do it. Or, if my eye doctor hadn't so strongly encouraged me from getting the contacts you can sleep in, I would do that.
