Fantasy Quest - drawbridges

Can't get either of them to open - and what is this talk of fiery drawbridges, neither of the ones in my game are alight (yet?).

Anyway, I am obviously terminally stupid (and therefore in need of strong hints) because after months of playing this game off and on I have just found the soothsayer (or maybe she has just appeared). So I now have what she gave me but it doen't seem to have made a blind bit of difference.
