He has a Master's degree and I am still working on my Bachelor's. Guess what- I don't make all that much less than he does. I remember when I was young he had to work two jobs just to provide for us. I have watched him deal with many frustrations. Fortunately he teaches in one of the better school districts and is very dedicated. > > How long and what subjects did you teach ?
I taught 33 years, mostly 8th grade science, but also spent some time teaching English. Summers, I taught driver's ed and at night, Adult Basic Education, just to help provide for my family. I also worked a few summers painting classroom. The last few years that I taught, I was editor of the teachers' association newsletter and a member of the contract negotiating team. That's where I had to deal with school boards, which are not made up of educators. It was a great career, especially after my wife went to work at Lockheed Martin and supplimented our income. She was a secretary and made considerably more than I did. I think I burned out a little the last few years, so I don't really miss teaching. I stay busy and some of my best friends are former students. Howard
