Yeah, well, as long as we're asking that much, I think God also should write me a memo every year, specifically as a reminder that "Columbus Day" in the States is Thanksgiving in Canada. I mean, yesterday I was up at the cottage and Dave was behind the woodshed splitting huge hunks of logs, when it began to show very heavily. Must have set a new record for the Autumn arrival of snow. It was really bombing down on us. We both got very very wet, and cold, and the snowflakes were fully 1-1/2 inches across. I could not see to the other end of the lake as the snow came driving down and blinded us considerably. And then we gave up and went inside. I experienced the incongruity of sitting by a warm roaring fireplace, on top of comfortably soft sheepskin rugs, and with many good things to eat. Almost, it felt very strange -- like we had been sucked into a world of creature comforts so staggeringly demanding that they had to be indulged at all costs. When the cold reality of the outside world -- with all its inherent chills and drafts -- indeed, when this coldness tried to reach us through the windows of our little cottage, we cursed it and did everything possible to ignore it and keep it at bay. Then we all overindulged in the Thanksgiving turkey and trimmings. You know, the life and everything described here seems a mite incongruous. Is this what I am thankful for?
