Yep. Defensive driving is more about Stayin' Alive than getting out of tickets. In fact, what they told mom was basically, do what you can to stay alive, and pay the ticket if one comes to you*. It's a relatively small price to pay.

*I can see it coming. OF COURSE drive legally whenever possible. But in those few situations where doing so could cost you, say, your LIFE, do what you have to and face the (lesser) consequences.
