> You people are all dorks. The correct answer to tailgating is to change lanes and allow the tailgater to pass you. At least, I feel this is the case for a freeway/highway type of situation. I get that there is some big moral imperitave to show those tailgaters who's boss, but I generally drive with the thought of, "It's not my job to tell other people on the road how fast they should be going."

Generally, the only time I get tailgated is when I'm passing in the left lane. As I said, I usually use cruise control set to 5 mph over the posted speed limit, which means I'm going faster than most large, cumbersome vehicles like RVs, buses, and semi trucks, but slower than a lot of traffic. I generally stay in the middle or right lane except when I'm passing, so people don't tailgate me there, they just pass me, and that doesn't bother me.

But it DOES get on my nerves when I'm passing a truck and some screaming idiot with a lead foot comes up behind me and tailgates. I don't WANT to get rear-ended if I have to hit the brakes suddenly, especially if I have my wife and son in the car with me, which I usually do if I'm driving on the freeway. In this situation, I can't just change lanes and let them pass me. I do so as quickly as possible, but since I like leave plenty of space between me and whatever I'm passing, what usually happens is that the tailgater zooms over and passes me on the right. I use my blinker to let them know that I plan to get back over, but the really impatient (stupid) ones do it anyway.

> But maybe that's just because I always want to be doing 80 MPH... ;P

When you 80 MPH people get on my nerves, I usually console myself by wondering why you're in such a hurry? Gotta make it on time to your next accident?
