> I have to go with Unipeg on this one. Irony is more an incongruity than an unfortunate situation. Winning the lottery on the day you finally get a huge raise so you don't need the money would be ironic. Meeting your soulmate the day your married boyfriend of several years tells you he filed for divorce to be with you would be ironic. Only the plane thing fits, in my mind.

Mousie, your lottery thing isn't ironic. It's fortunate, because than you have a WHOLE BUNCH OF MONEY anyway. What would be ironic is if you won the lottery the day after it went bankrupt.
