It might just be the shock. People react weirdly to shock sometimes (well, reacting weirdly after an injury is pretty much what shock *is*.) A big emotional reaction is pretty common, whether it's crying or laughing or both.

It might be a stress reaction too. I once experienced a very weird reaction to a very long, physically strenuous day: I hurt all over and could barely move, and I found myself lying down simultaneously laughing and almost crying. At the same time I still had a "normal" section of my mind which was dispassionately watching all this going on, and thinking "You're nuts. You are really nuts this time."
