The thing that provokes me is the belief that God "allowed" this to happen "for a reason". (This was something someone at your company had said, so I understand it's not necessarily your opinion.)

No. Stuff (you may consider that filtered) happens -- for no reason whatsoever. People are hurt or killed because of the evil or careless actions of other people (or themselves), or even just because of stupid coincidences like being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

This was not staged by God, it was not allowed by God, it was evil terrorists doing things totally on their own accord.

If people were on those planes or not, or in those buildings or not, by some lucky or unlucky chance, and whether or not these people were Christians or not, has nothing to do with it. It's just meaningless. Saying anything else is trying to put reason and meaning where there is none.
