This is odd. Having lived my entire life in Southern California (and almost all of it near the coast), I've always heard that the Atlantic is quite warm, at least compared to the Pacific. I generally don't find the Pacific to be too miserable (it's cold, but that's a *good* thing in the summer), so I always expected that the Atlantic would be quite pleasant.

Anyone want to comment on what the deal is? I think the last person to *insist* on this fact was an English Professor who lived in one of the Carolinas. Is there a noticable temperature difference depending on where on the eastern coast you're at?
