a good way to pass the time

There wasn't much going on here the other day, so we rode up to Dollywood. Dolly wasn't there, the kids were in school, and it was mid-week, so the crowd wasn't but about half of normal. There were no lines, and plenty of room to walk around. Better yet, the weather was really nice.
We had lunch and saw one of our favorites shows for about the umpteenth time. Never get tired of it. It's doo wop, R&B, rock and roll, a little Elvis, Pony tails, poodle skirts, duck tails and all that 1950's stuff. They have a six-piece band and about 20 singers and dancers. As always, it was very professionally done. The warm up comic had a few jokes. "Why does the chicken cross the road? To show the 'possum that in can be done." "Why does the chewing gum cross the road? Because it's stuck to the chicken's foot." It's a very family-friendly place. We walked up Craftsmen's Valley to see the buggy factory, the blacksmith's shop, the bald eagles, the church and the craft barn. We even stopped to hear Dolly's uncle sing. He's getting old, but still sounds good, if you like country music. Dolly has some new trams to haul you in from the far-flung parking lots. Much quieter and smoother than the old ones. On the ride back to the car, I heard the old Baldwin's steam whistle wailing as it hauled the tourist up the track into the mountains. Now there is a sound that will take you back a half century or so.
