I was watching VH1 one day, and there was a biography of Madonna on. They had one of her friends on the show. The friend related an incident when she and Madonna were out walking around.
A man came up to Madonna and said, "Your hair looks like &%*@ like that. It looked better the other way." Then he walked off.
Celebrities are seen as public property, I think. It's not just privacy, it's that the whole world thinks that their opinion of you is relevant, since you are the Entertainer. Like what Sam said about the pointless hatemail he receives.
Also, people say very rude things about celebrities. I hear comments in the media about celebrities which I would never say to another person. Fame seems to make a person open to new heights of cruel insults. Remember when Alicia Silverstone showed up at an awards ceremony ten pounds heavier, and the press made a big deal about how FAT she was? Bleah.
I sometimes wonder how fame would change me if I ever attained it. I think that I would have a nervous breakdown under the countless criticism and blasts, and then I would become totally desensitized to negative comments of any kind and would morph into a bigger jerk than I already am.
Then I would swim around in my money and wear Prada.
