My guess is that when eating a sandwich cut in triangles, the bites you take are of smaller volume because triangular shapes are so pointy. And I think that smaller bites taste better. I'm not sure why, but I think that, even if one is well brought up, one has a tendency to stuff the mouth with more food than is optimal. I assume that there is an optimal mixture of saliva and bread, or something.

Well, your mother is weird. Everyone knows that triangular sandwiches are only for special occasions :-) Maybe that's actually the reason: We like what we don't usually get.
