Gee, now I'm all curious about what my California 'accent' sounded like. ;)

It's too bad, really. Using mirrors you can see yourself as others see you, but even with microphones and recording devices, simply because of the way your brain is taught to regard one mode of speech as 'normal', you can never really hear yourself as others hear you.
