I think that this weekend was designed purely for the mentally unbalanced. First of all, we had the Avon Descent. 700 different canoes, kayaks and powerboats hurtling down over 130kms of river and rapids in 2 days. If that's not completely crazy, then I don't know what else could qualify.
They showed footage on the news, kayaks being torn into pieces, powerboats hitting rocks and throwing people into the air.

Plus it's the middle of winter=cold!

The balloon circumnavigation also started very early yesterday morning. I think I can understand that one a little bit more, he's pretty driven, but a few of my students stayed up all night to watch (it didn't take off until around 6am) and when they came to their dancing competition, they were really tired.

The funny thing is, they still danced reasonably well. I know that if the situation was reversed, I wouldn't be able to stay awake.
