Actually, there's a newer theory about the extinction of the dinosaurs that I quite like. It's based on the observation that in colder climes, there will be an increase in the percentage of lizards born female. So the theory proposes that, as the world approached the Ice Age, a progressively larger percentage of the dinosaur population was female, until, eventually, there were no males left at all. And, if there are no males left, there can be no reproduction (well, no sexual reprodution, anyhow, and dinosaurs weren't known for their ability to reproduce asexually). So the dinosaurs weren't destroyed in one gigantic earth-shattering "kaboom" (illudium Q38 explosive space modulator or not), says this theory, they faded from existence in a much more subtle way.
