Which came first, the touch tone telephone, or the adding maching/calculator?

More importantly, who is the smartaleck who put phone digit buttons in order from the top, and adding machine/calculator digit buttons in order from the bottom?

Anotherwards (as I once saw it written and still chuckle about today), why are phone keypads set up with 1-2-3 on the top and 7-8-9 on the bottom, and 10-key pads the other way around??

It -- admittedly, inter alia -- is driving me crazy!!
