My grandad once owned a rather nice small sailing-boat (about 24 feet or so, memory a bit rusty), called Sharayne. I crewed it with my dad several (enjoyable) times. . He eventually sold it for two reasons:

1). After 45 years, it finally occurred to him that being colour-blind was not exactly perfect for sailing.

2). The force 8 gale we got caught in trying to get into Harwich harbour scared the (insert word of choice) out of everyone. That was the last time he ever tried to get a boat into Harwich - the poor girl's last voyage was two days later, back to her home on the River Deben.

PS: The approach to Harwich harbour is very difficult indeed - it involves sneaking into a small channel between four LARGE sandbanks - the Platters, the Andrews, the Cutler, and the Cork. Add a gale and a rapidly going-out tide...
