I've been thinking about this for a little while, and I've come to the conclusion that EVERYONE should believe that prayers have at least a little bit of power. For someone who believes in God, that power is to do what the prayers ask. It gets a bit more iffy when it comes to people who don't believe in God though. For this part I need to assume that people who believe in God also believe that prayers from non-believers count just like normal ones. Okay, assuming that, and assuming that every time someone prays for someone the person they're praying for (assuming they believe in God) feels more hopeful (if the person told them that they prayed for them), prayers have power even for people who don't believe in God. They have the power to make the person being prayed for feel more hopeful and maybe a little bit relieved.
