I've been thinking of this since you posted it, and I keep thinking that there would have to be a limit. Now I haven't read anyone else's responses to your question yet, but hmm. I keep thinking that since there is a set number of notes, then there must be a set number of arrangements you can place those notes in. I don't know anything about music other than it's nice to listen to, though, so...*shrug* Oh, and the length thing you mentioned kind of makes me think, too. Say you took a one minute melody and lengthened it to an hour. Would you actually be able to call that a different tune, or would it be considered the same because it's just the original one repeated over and over again. ARGH! Brain freeze...
