It also stands to reason that the type of people who are likely to gamble/play the lottery/etc. are the type of people who are not responsible with their money, so it makes sense to me that many lottery winners end up bankrupt.

If I won a buttload of money, I'd like to think I'd be responsible enough to use it wisely. Pay off my debts, purchase the things I *need*, and save and wisely invest the rest. But I'm not very likely to win a buttload of money, because I'm not willing to spend money on lottery tickets, or slot machines, or what-have-you.
