I encounter the same problem when I'm running long runs... I get bored listening to myself think, and having a portable tape/ CD/ MP3 player isn't good when you can be flattened by a car. Usually I just deal with it, but for very long runs I'll bring a friend along. There's no talking involved, but it somehow eases the boredom.
