When I was in Florida last, thickly overcast skies rained almost every day...for half an hour. The rest of the time it was bright and sunny. One of those half hour rainfalls was one of the heaviest downpours I remember. Then, when I lived in Europe, well, I remember one time I got off the school bus when it was raining, and during my walk home it cleared into cloudless sunshine, and by the time I walked through my front door, there was a snowstorm.

If you want stable weather, come to Tennessee. It's hot, humid, and calm out there and that's the way it's going to be until mid-September. I don't count isolated thunderstorms. They're too undependable. This is the time of year when my only thoughts are those that include words like California, Hawaii, Canada, Tacoma, and air conditioner. It's not just the weather. It's also the bugs.
