That's probably because we prefer our humour subtle or sarcastic and that we have to think a little to *get* the joke. The funniest thing that happened to me recently was watching the film *Snatch* in a cinema in Florida. It was as funny to watch the Americans in the Audience staring at the screen bemused by all the dialogue as it was to watch the film itself.
