The only thing I can write in cursive these days is "dollars and" on those infrequent times when I actually write a check.

[Speaking of, does anyone write checks anymore? Back when I was in college, there were some places that wouldn't accept a check unless it was numbered 300 or higher. The thought behind that was someone with check number 300 would have had the account open for a while so there probably was money in there.

With the availabilty of debit cards, electronic funds transfers, and online paying services, my wife and I haven't had to write a check in about two months. Three years ago, we were writing at least eight checks per month. Today, I just wrote check #441.]

Back when I was in college, we were forced to take a hand-lettering class because architectural plans were always (always!) written in block letters. That, combined with me writing a comic strip for the local paper, always made me prefer printing whenever I had to write something.

I've always thought this was odd. First I learned to print then was told about cursive, which was going to be very important later in life. Then, in college, we had to re-learn how to print.
