BG, your question surprised me. As I was reading and saw the two sides presented, I immediately decided on Viewpoint #2. Then I started trying to explain it to myself, and it ended up sounding much more like Viewpoint #1. Then I was confused, but Ferrick's line here brought out Viewpoint #3/2 and helped me clarify my thoughts. They aren't exceptional. I don't want to be told romantic things that aren't true. But if they are true, by all means, say them. Sometimes, like koalamom and others talked about, the feeling of love gets exhausted, but the choice made to love that person doesn't. Perhaps saying the words may remind a person that the words are true.
