This thread is reminding me of one of Terry Pratchett's non-Discworld novels, _Only You Can Save Mankind_.

The book opens with Johnny Maxwell, human boy, playing the computer game Only You Can Save Mankind(TM). Saving Mankind consists, in this case as in so many others, mainly in blowing up lots of alien spaceships. So Johnny's doing this when suddenly a message pops up on his screen: it's from the aliens, and says "DON'T SHOOT. WE SURRENDER."
