I read in the newspaper yesterday that our glorious governer Jane "control freak" Hull says rolling blackouts in Arizona this summer are a possibilty. This is the same lady that, at the start of the California energy crisis, said that she would not allow the federal government to force Arizona to send its power to California. Basically, despite the fact that at the time we had a large energy surplus and are right next door to California, they could fend for themselves. Summer came a bit early this year; it's already hit at least 108, so people will be working their air conditioners overtime. Which means, obviously, a greater strain on our energy supply.
Throughout all of this George W. Bush has been pushing his energy plan. It consists basically of drilling for more oil, despite the fact that we have enough oil, just not enough refineries or power plants, and the electric grid is outdated. He's cutting research into energy efficency and renewable energy resources, which makes NO SENSE whatsover because obviously our oil supply will not last forever - even if we do drill into Alaska.
So when it gets to be late June and our energy supply is totally drained, where will we go? We can't go to other states - we helped establish a precedent of not caring. We can't go to the feds -with them it's "you're on your own, kid!" Oh well. Live and learn, I suppose...
