I read Brunnen-G's and Jezzika's responses, and am trying to figure out where I fit into this idea. Am I intelligent? Well, I know people who are both more and less intelligent than myself, and that's all I'm going to say about that part. However, I don't consider myself to be extremely stupid, and I like to think that I am well-versed in a few areas of life and general knowledge.

That said, I'll unabashedly say that I like some of the celebrity gossip. Granted, I have no use for the tabloids that contain everything but truth, but I can't help but be interested in the people who stand in society's spotlight. What makes these people stand out? Why do so many of us idolize the celebrities that really seem to be no different than ourselves? And, when celebrities do things that become news, why do they do them? Basically, what makes stars -- and "regular" people -- tick? It's a fascinating thing to observe.

There are other reasons why I like occasional doses of celebrity gossip. First, it reminds me that they're human beings and that I probably don't want to be in their shoes. Second, it's interesting to see what does and does not become news. Third, and along the same lines, I am a news hound who is quite curious. I like to know what's going on in the world around me. The world is made up of fascinating people, and it's amazing to watch and observe them. Their actions sometimes influence others around them, and frequently change history.

Am I ashamed of being interested in celebrity gossip? No, I am not. It's just another way for me to watch and learn about the world around me.
