The BBC does almost shut down for the night, and then start showing "The Learning Zone," a collection of open university-style educational programming. Sometimes, althought I'm not sure whether they do it now or not, they would show random Teletext pages instead, over a long beep. God knows why the beep was there. You couldn't listen to that for more than about twenty seconds, especially not at 4AM. It's a bit of a puzzle as to why they showed Teletext, seeing as how there are only three TVs left without Teletext access. There was also the test card, various contrast and colour bars surrounding a picture of a girl drawing on a little blackboard. Over the beep.
