What do you mean "goes off the air"? :o)

I can remember them doing that when I was a kid, but these days they all broadcast twenty-four hours a day.


(And I don't remember ever being up late enough to find out how they announced the closure. I only know it happened because it was noted in the TV guides, and because sometimes I'd get up early to watch cartoons and the new day's broadcasting hadn't begun yet.)
