I don't have all that much to say about this, because I haven't spent much time thinking about it, but for some reason I had to post... I think that you and I think about movies very differently. You seem to be after a deeper meaning and lesson, or social message or something like that, while I go simply to be entertained. I'm going to see Pearl Harbor, Shrek, Tomb Raider, and The Mummy Returns, and I am not once going to hope to take anything away with me. I don't go to movies for that reason. I go to movies because explosions, neat gadgets, cool special effects, and hot chix0rz are fun to watch. I'm also not going to see Moulin Rouge. I'm not going to see that because I just don't like musicals. I don't care how much emotion they have in them; that's not why I go to the movies. Breaking into song and dance every few minutes doesn't appeal to me either.
