Pheasants and turkeys are different species. Actual turkeys, same species as what we eat, do exist in the wild. My parents see them in their backyard all the time. On the other side of the globe, we saw dozens in New Zealand. They're a lot less fat and clumsy looking in the wild.

Pheasants make for good eatin', too.
