Question what you see, then make a decision based on both viewpoints (this could also apply to religion).

Bo makes an excellent point. Here's something else to consider: Do you really think the media is going to run stories on all the places that treat their animals humanely? Who the heck would watch that?

"Tonight at 10 we take a hard look at a local slaughterhouse who treats their animals pretty darn well"

That won't get viewers, but an expose about how animals are treated inhumanely and cruelly....that'll get the people to tune in.
