Sounds a lot like the metaphysical theory of solipsism. That is, the belief that the self is the only thing that can be known or verified.
When I was much younger, I thought that I could be dreaming what we perceive to be real life. All of these people I know are just dream-stuff. You, reading this, don't really have any thoughts of your own, you just think you have memories; these are memories I have given to you. Singapore doesn't exist except in magazine articles and those only exist when I read them. When I came in to work this morning, I took an elevator. Right now I can't see it, therefore I cannot be certain that it exists.
One of my friends said he used to think the same way, except instead of dream-stuff, we were all holograms.
