Thank you, Howard! I *really* like this page. They are wonderful quilts!

It just looks that way, to me anyway. Who made it? The one right beside it (blue and white checkerboard) is also attractive by its utter simplicity and directness.

According to my quilting reference book __The Romance of the Patchwork Quilt in America__(published in 1935), the oldest quilt's pattern is described as Log Cabin Star: "The diamonds are pieced of small strips, then cut and pieced to form the star". I think this is also called string piecing. I like these kind of scrap quilts.

They identify the one in the upper left as "Starry Crown" or "Friendship Knot" (different names in different regions of the country) Upper right = "Texas Star", you are sleeping on "Mill Wheel". The checkerboard one is "One patch" (apparently needs smaller scale to be called "Checkerboard") But don't find the one in the lower left. Possibly variation of "Crosses & Losses" or "Anvil"? What do your quilters call them all? A rose by any other name...

There are some great names for quilting patterns.
Picking out some from the same book: (and talk about opposities), how about "Love Knot" and "Contrary Wife" or "Steps to the Altar" and "Broken Dishes". "Crazy Ann" sounds more interesting than it looks, in my opinion.
