These were found usually close to the ground on islands in the middle of the road. They were basically pointing directly at the road in front of us. Our interpretation was "Drive On Road." I thought it was awesome that New Zealanders needed signs to remind them of this. "Oh, bugger, I've driven through the bush again."

> Since both you and Sam mentioned this, I figured I should comment. The "!" sign seems to be an international sign. They had that sign in Russia and I made sure to take a picture of it. One of the other funny signs was a picture of a car hurtling itself into one of the canals in St. Petersburg. Often, the "!" sign was followed by the Car in the Canal sign. We figured it meant, "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! CARS CAN'T SWIM!"

I'll just mention as a person who's played Colin McRae on the playstation, they have the "!" sign flashing up to let you know when there is a ridge or sharp rise in the road. Of course, in the game, this means you fly! I doubt if it's quite that exciting IRL.

My favourite sign was one on a trail in Central Darwin. It goes through a park, and says "Beware of Falling Rocks". On the trail. Not before you walk intot the dangerous area, but when you are underneath looking up at the precariously balanced rocks.

ding"I also liked the Crocodile warning sign when we were camping: "do not return to the same river bank when cleaning or getting water, or leave animals or small children near the river's edge"dong
