Well, probably because Charlotte couldn't coerce Concord into changing its name. CMS NEVER WAS in Charlotte. Not even in the same county. Charlotte just glommed onto the name and Humpy agreed. The Queen city's forever doing things like that.
For instance, the local sportscasters constantly refer to "Charlotte native" Natrone Means. He grew up in Harrisburg and went to high school at Central Cabarrus.
Shoot, the Charlotte Knights aren't even in the same STATE! They're located in Fort Mill, SC.
And DON'T EVEN get me started about Charlotte's plans to take over zoning restrictions for the surrounding counties (or their campaign to collect taxes from those counties)!
