There are two explanations I've heard:

1. Unlike Western audiences, they've seen the flying-swordsman-martial-movie thing done before in other movies.

2. Thanks to the healthy Asian pirate industry, they'd already seen the movie before it was released in cinemas.

Perhaps they feel that other movies have done it better, which I can understand.

Also, CTHD is in some respects a Western-movie-trying-to-do-the-Oriental-thing rather than an Oriental movie, which is something that Oriental audiences might not appreciate.
Many people feel, perhaps with justification, that Western martial arts movies lack something that Oriental ones have.
