This is actually my concern as well, about the Tolkien series rather than the Harry Potter. But what i decided was that if it really IS good writing, it will draw the people who would've read it anyway, simply on its artistic merit (and yes, Kelly, i realize that's basing one's actions on others' opinions), rather than merely on its popular appeal.
