> This reminded me so much of the scene in Star Trek 4, when Scotty is on the computer in the 20th Century and he talks to it. Naturally it doesn't respond. Bones gently pushes him towards the mouse, and so he looks at it and then picks it up to speak into it.

I love that part. And if you look closely at James Doohan's hand when he picks up the mouse, you can see his missing finger. He lost it in WW2.
