I'm not sure about the other guys commenting here, but with MY occasional fear of the dark (outside), it's got little to do with my inability to see, and a lot to do with fear of the uncontrollable unknown, like the potential for someone hiding behind a bush while i unlock my front door. I usually just pray and try to get inside quickly.

I think, of all things, high school communication class helped me overcome my fear of the dark (inside). The trick to handling stage fright is learning how to use the aderenaline to improve, rather than interfere with, one's performance. I started teaching myself to be aware of where everything was, and i would just joy in being able to walk through the entire house, sometimes even with a full bowl of cereal over carpet, without turning a light on.

Major directional change:
I don't want to sound intolerant, and i'm not even sure if it would be classified under "fear," but i absolutely do not understand why one of my friends cringes when she hears a Subway restaurant napkin being rubbed between someone's fingers.
