We have those here too, but here they're "open road" signs which mean you've reached the end of whatever little town you just went through, and you're allowed to go back to the open-road speed limit for your vehicle. Technically this means 80 kph for vehicles towing something, 90 for trucks, and 100 for everybody else. In reality it's just as random as New Zealand road conditions can make it. And everyone knows trucks only have two speeds: much too slow and much too fast.
