It is a popular topic, and in fact we've gone over homeschooling pretty recently. A link to the top article in a very interesting message hierarchy is below. Feel free to continue that thread if you like. My personal view is that public schooling, private schooling, and home schooling can all work, and they can all be abused. I think the more choices available to parents, the better, and it is their responsibility to decide the best course of action based on their particular circumstances. It sounds like you're in a good homeschooling situation, and I hope it continues to work out.
