The difficulty of the classes you take are considered, as well. I didn't get very good grades in high school, but I took all the most difficult classes, such as the AP courses and the Gifted curriculum , plus I scored pretty well on the SAT. So I was offered scholarships, and probably would have had no trouble finding a good college.

However, the really good schools (such as my dream school, the University of Pennsylvania) would have seen my low grades as a lack of discipline, which it was. A person who scored much lower than I did, but who had a 4.0 grade average, would have been accepted, while I would have been rejected.

Just telling what I know about college acceptance standards. A high SAT score is something to be proud of. But I wish I had devoted more time to my grades, rather than take it for granted that my skill at test-taking would get me by.
