Meaning that the child will always know the s/he was adopted, and they know who their birth parents are, and might even know them personally. From what I've read about it, it's much healthier for everyone involved than the old system of keeping it all a secret. That's really cool of your aunt and uncle.

In this case, my aunt and uncle have, over the last few months, developed a friendship with the birth mother (I don't know about the birth father so much...). In this case, she's a 16-year-old Christian girl who rather made a mistake - but she requested a Christian couple, and got my uncle and aunt, who RULE. So that's very cool.... and I REEEEALLY want to go out and meet her! soon! Adoption in any case is going to be tough - in closed adoptions, the kids always wonder who their parents were and why they gave them up. In open adoptions, on the other hand, the whole parental relationship thing can get confusing.... but we'll see how it goes.
