And Antoni Gaudí, the Catalan architect of Barcelona, died in 1926 after being run down by a trolley car. He was a genious, but got so occupied with building the church of the Holy Family in his later days that he cared about little else, and therefore looked almost like a bum. So after he was run down, nobody recognized and cared to help the genious architect, and he died there in the street.

Well, that's what my art history teacher told me, anyway.
