I just scanned the cast list again, and saw Sammy Davis Jr. listed as the Caterpillar, and that struck me as familiar. 1985 made-for-tv, Through the Looking Glass is it! Keep in mind I was seven when this came out, but I loved it and it TERRIFIED me. Even the semi-nice characters were creepy....
