Ha ha. Appearances to the contrary, I do get my work done just like everyone else. :-)

Dunno if you were purposefully employing free verse rather than haiku, but for the benefit of readers who don't already know the scansion of haiku poetry, the meter goes as follows:

1st line: 5 syllables
2nd line: 7 syllables
3rd line: 5 syllables

To the best of my knowledge, haiku originated with the Inuits (the people we used to call "Eskimos" before we found out that was an offensive term), but that's pretty much all I know about it. Anyone else know something interesting about haiku? I'd like to know a little more about it.

Nothing against free verse either, lest I seem to be criticizing GJ's verses. I used to be incapable of writing anything other than strict iambic meter (not that my stuff was any good, mind you), but later on I settled on semi-free-verse as my favorite style on the occasions when I feel the urge to wax poetical. I like to employ rhyme loosely, with moderate doses of word play, alliteration and ad-hoc word meanings mixed in. I'll never be a poet any more than I'll be a singer, but it's a great thing to do just for my own satisfaction.
