You're using a piano book that doesn't do anything with your two hands doing different things? Not even left hand chords? I wouldn't trust that book. Well, unless it doesn't start out with that but then gets to it. I suppose that's OK. A book that says it'll teach you piano, though, but then doesn't eventually have you using both hands or has your hands playing the same thing should not be trusted.
